Establishment of Centre of Excellence on Training on Pollution Control and Environmental Protection
In pursuance to the decision taken in 99th Board meeting, a cell designated as “Centre of Excellence on Training on Pollution Control and Environmental Protection” has been created. The centre has successfully conducted various Training Programme / Seminars / Workshops. The first training programme on “Industrial Pollution Control for large-scale Steel Plant, Thermal Power Plant and Aluminium Industries” was organized during 22nd – 27th June, 2009 at Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar.

| The programme was inaugurated by Hon’ble Sri Justice B. P. Das, Orissa High Court. Shri T. K. Mishra, IAS, Development Commissioner and Chairman, State Pollution Control Board, Orissa. presided over the meeting. Dr. B. Sengupta, Former Member Secretary, Central Pollution Control Board addressed the participants as Guest of Honour. Shri Siddhanta Das, IFS, Member Secretary, State Pollution Control Board, Orissa outlined the purpose of the training. The centre has successfully conducted the following Training Programmes / Seminars / Workshops for 271 participants from different agencies since its inception. |

Observation of Different Days
Silver Jubilee Celebration by the Board
The Board celebrated its Silver Jubilee at Hotel Swosti Plaza, Bhubaneswar on its Foundation Day, the 14th September, 2008.
The function was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Hon’ble Sri Justice B. P. Das, Orissa High Court. Sri H. S. Chahar, IAS, Principal Secretary, Forest & Environment Department, Govt. of Orissa graced the occasion as Guest of Honour.
As special publication, a “Souvenir” and a quarterly newsletter, “Parivesh Samachar”- were released on this occasion. Ex-chairmen of the Board and the officials, who have completed 25 years of service in the Board, were felicitated.
Central Pollution Control Board sponsored workshop on “Emission Reduction in Sponge Iron Plants and Integrated Steel Plants (DRI Route) of Orissa by Adoption of Clean Technology” was organized on the occasion involving statutory authorities, industries, technology manufactures, pollution control device manufactures and the technical experts.
Prof. (Dr.) M. K. Rout Memorial Lecture was also organized during the celebration. Dr. B. Sengupta, Member Secretary, Central Pollution Control Board, New Delhi delivered the memorial lecture on “Environmental Concerns in India and Action Points for Implementation with Special Reference to Orissa”. Board employees staged a drama, “Sabu Dosha Amara ?”.
Celebration of Board’s Foundation Day
Foundation Day of the Board was observed on 15th September, 2009. The function was inaugurated by Sri T. K. Mishra, IAS, Chief Secretary and Chairman of the Board. Sri U. N. Behera, IAS, Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Forest & Environment Department was Guest of Honour. Dr. Barada Kanta Mishra, Director, Institute of Materials and Minerals Technology, Bhubaneswar delivered Prof. M. K. Rout Memorial Lecture.
Pollution Control Excellence Award was given to M/s Patabeda Iron and Manganese Mines, Patabeda and M/s National Aluminum Company Ltd., (Mining &Refinery Complex), Damanjodi in the Mining Sector and Large and Medium Industry sectors, respectively, while Pollution Control Appreciation Award was given to L. V. Prasad Eye Hospital in the category of Health Care Unit.
On the occasion, employees of the Board staged a drama, “Aee Amari Gaan”.
