Training programme for Police personnels
110 number of Police Havildars from various districts of Orissa State were imparted training on vehicular pollution and its control by the Board. The participants of the programme have been trained on the instrumentation and methodology involving noise level monitoring.
Environmental awareness campaign among the school children
To bring about an awareness among the school children on Nature, the Board has sponsored an Eco-tourism project under 'Generation of Conservation awareness around Chandaka Dampara Wildlife Sanctuary' through DFO, Chandaka Wildlife Division.
Board has also conducted environmental awareness campaign for high school students in Capital Boys' High School, Unit-II and Capital Boys' High School, Unit-VIII of Bhubaneswar on 20.01.05 and 25.02.05 respectively. Various environmental quality monitoring equipments were demonstrated. Environmental standards and pollution control methods were discussed with the students.
Training programme for NGOs of eastern region
Board has conducted a three day awareness programme for NGOs in Eastern region from 8 th to 10 th Dec. 2004 which includes site visit to Municipality Solid Waste Treatment Plant at Baliapanda, Puri and Biomedical Waste Treatment Plant ant Tangiapada, Khurda
ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS AND PUBLIC PARTICIPATION
There is no second opinion that alleviation of public awareness on every aspect including environmental protection can give wonderful results and translate the efforts of government and regulatory agencies for their success. Hence public awareness programme assumes a significant place among the core activities of State Pollution Control Boards. The year under report, the following activities were taken.

Board Celebrated World Environment Day on 5 th June 2005 .
Ozone Day
The Board celebrated the Ozone Day on 16 th September, 2004 .
22nd Foundation day
Board Celebrated 22 nd “ Foundation Day” on 16 th September 2004 . Sri G.B. Mukharjee, IAS graced the function as chief guest. Prof. M.K.Rout Memorial Lecture was delivered by Prof. Damaodoar Lenka, Retd. Professor, Agronomy on 22 nd Foundation day.
National Pollution Prevention Day
National Pollution Prevention Day was observed on 2 nd December, 2004 . Sri K. Jude Sekhar, IFS , Director(Env) –Special Secretary graced the function as chief guest. A lecture on Disaster management Plan was delivered by Sri Sidhanta Das, IFS on the occasion.
8.6.2 Pollution Control Excellence Award, 2004
To encourage the industries/mines to adopt adequate pollution control measures and maintain compliance to all statutory obligations, the Board has instituted Pollution Control Excellence Award and Pollution Control Appreciation award. Basing on their self assessment report and other evaluating parameters like control measures adopted for water and air pollution, practices followed for the management of solid waste and hazardous waste disposal, public complaints received against the unit, status of legal cases and overall environmental management practices followed by the industries, the award is decided by a committee.
The Board has awarded Pollution Control Excellence award to M/s. Utkal Asbestos Pvt Ltd, Dhenkanal in recognition of the effective pollution control measures taken and for adoption of excellent environmental management practices etc. The Pollution Control Appreciation award for implementing effective pollution control measures and adopting good environmental management practices has been awarded to M/s J.K. Paper Mill, Rayagada.

The Board published a book entitled " Noise Pollution " during the year 2004-05 for public awareness .
B. Paribesh Samachar
The Board published its quarterly newsletters “Parivesh Samachar” which were released on various occasions. The specific themes and occasions on which the newsletter were released are :

C. Annual Report
The Board published its Annual Report (2004-2005) in which the activities of the different cells in the Head Office and Regional Offices were highlighted.
